Your Half Term Update from Global Academy

Industry Partners Update - May 2025

And just like that…Another term is complete!

This end of term is extra special as we say good luck and take care to our Year 13 and Year 14 Globallers!

We are blessed to be able to welcome a handful of Year 13 back for Year 14, and for the rest, we can’t wait to see where their next adventures take them. Whether it’s in Higher Education, Apprenticeships, or Jobs, we’re excited to see them spread their wings!

The opportunities for our students this term have allowed us to raise aspirations through our G-Talks, exploring different career paths, networking with employers, and practical paid and voluntary work experience to build their CVs.

After achieving an Outstanding Ofsted result earlier this year, we are ensuring we don’t take our foot off the pedal and continue to be the best place for the next generation of Media, Entertainment, and Technical Talent.

We couldn’t squeeze in everything, but here are a few of the standout moments from this term…

  KS4 - YEAR 10 AND 11

Global Academy’s Top Year 10 Students Visit Sky Studios

Our highest-achieving Year 10 students were recently rewarded with an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit to Sky Studios in West London.

The trip gave students a unique insight into the world of media production — from live studio sets and control rooms to post-production facilities. As part of our mission to connect education with industry, the visit helped students explore a range of creative careers, including directing, editing, sound design, and more.

"It was amazing to see what happens behind the scenes — it’s made me think seriously about a career in media," said one student.

The visit forms part of the Academy’s ongoing commitment to providing real-world experiences that inspire ambition, celebrate academic success, and meet Gatsby Benchmarks by offering meaningful encounters with employers.

Global Academy Celebrates Culture Day, Showcasing Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

We recently transformed into a vibrant hub of colour, music, and celebration as students and staff came together to mark Culture Day—a joyful event that highlighted the diverse backgrounds and traditions within the school community. This celebration is a cornerstone of our DE&I programme, which aims to foster an inclusive environment where every individual feels valued and empowered. Through events like Culture Day, the Academy not only celebrates cultural diversity but also educates students on the importance of mutual respect and understanding. Such initiatives are integral to preparing students for success in the diverse landscape of the media and entertainment industry.

By embedding DE&I principles into our curriculum and community activities, we ensure that students are not only academically equipped but also culturally competent, ready to thrive in a globalised world.

Global Inspire Mentor Showcase

Global Mentoring Programme Showcase at Global Academy

Our standout Global Inspire Mentoring Programme came to a powerful close with a celebratory finale hosted at the Academy itself, recognising the achievements of 35 Year 12 students who completed the industry-backed scheme.

Designed to bridge the gap between classroom and career, the programme connected students with professionals from across Global HQ for one-to-one mentoring. Over several months, students received personalised guidance, career insight, and professional development tailored to their creative ambitions.

The finale event at the Academy was a true celebration, featuring student reflections, mentor testimonials, and showcases of the skills and confidence gained throughout the journey.

This programme is a cornerstone example of our mission to deliver real-world industry experiences that equip young people with the tools, contacts, and inspiration needed to thrive in today’s competitive media landscape.

Year 13 Canon Day

Inside Canon: Lights, Camera, Confidence!

We joined our partners, Canon, for our annual Canon Day. This provided students with an immersive, hands-on photography workshop. This collaboration aimed to equip budding creatives with practical skills and boost their confidence behind the lens.

During the session, students explored essential photography concepts, including exposure, composition, and lighting techniques. Guided by Canon-certified trainers, they engaged in interactive activities that bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world application.

By collaborating with leading organisations like Canon, the Academy ensures its students are well-prepared for careers in the world of media and content creation.

This workshop not only enhanced technical proficiency but also inspired students to pursue their creative passions with renewed enthusiasm and confidence.

Year 12 Journalism students spend the day at The Times

Global Academy Students Gain Insider Access at The Times

Our Year 12 Journalism students were welcomed into The News Building in London Bridge for an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience with The Times.

The visit began with a guided tour of the bustling newsroom, offering students a firsthand look at the operations of one of the UK's leading newspapers. They observed the dynamic environment where stories are crafted and deadlines met, gaining invaluable insights into the fast-paced world of journalism.

Following the tour, students engaged in interactive sessions with seasoned journalists and editors, discussing topics ranging from investigative reporting to digital media trends. These conversations provided a deeper understanding of the skills and dedication required in the field.

This immersive experience allowed our Journalism students to discover a wide range of routes into successful careers in media and journalism.
