Your Half Term Update from Global Academy

Industry Partners Update - December 2024

And that’s a wrap for 2025

This second half-term has been full of new experiences, new partners, and new learning.

As 2024 draws to a close, we’re proud to reflect on the incredible achievements of our talented students at Global Academy. Their exceptional skill, creativity, and professionalism have shone brightly across various creative, tech, media and industry-focused activities.

Whether it has been branded briefs, seminars, workshops, or focus groups our Global stars have been at the heart of all the action; both on-site here at the Academy and on location.

If you’re ready to get involved…Drop me an email at [email protected] – I would love to work together with you to shape the next generation of creative talent!

As challenging as it is to condense all their accomplishments into a single newsletter, here are some standout highlights:

G-Talk Guest Lectures:

We were honored to host industry professionals such as Lydia Rodford, a rising DJ and radio personality at Capital FM, who shared invaluable insights into the broadcasting world. As well as Aaron Knightly a self-made millionaire and content creator who gave a Lecture on being a ‘creator and not a consumer’.

Next Gen Conference:

Give An X

Year 13 and 14 students attended the Next Gen Conference, engaging with thought leaders and exploring emerging trends in the creative industries. They took on voluntary roles as Social Media Managers, Stage Managers, and Floor Managers.

Be a T Level Partner:

Global Academy has over 80 students taking this qualification this year and we're now looking for industry placements for them for next June | July and Sep | Oct 2025.

Art & Design Students Reimagine Global Radio Stations

Year 13 Art and Design students at Global Academy demonstrated their branding skills by presenting new radio station ideas to Global's top marketing and design team.

Over the term, students studied Global's well-known radio brands and worked hard to create fresh rebranding ideas to attract new listeners to commercial radio. The project ended with a professional pitch session at Global HQ, where they showcased their concepts to a panel of marketing and design experts.

The panel included Mark Potts (Creative and Brand Design Director), Claire Sneden (Marketing Openings and Planning Director), Emily Parrot (Marketing Manager), and Ije Ejoh (Marketing Apprentice). Both Emily and Ije are proud alumni of Global Academy, with Ije recalling her own experience presenting a similar project during her time as a student.

Harper Collins Year 11 Brief:

In collaboration with HarperCollins, our Year 11 students undertook a new brief.

We had the privilege of welcoming author Mehreen Baig and publisher Katie Seargeant to officially launch: Glow Up Your Grades.

This project allowed our students to explore creative ways to promote the book Glow Up Your Grades. The brief challenges them to think outside the box and create campaigns that highlight the importance of persistence and a well-rounded education—including the vital role of STEM subjects alongside our creative courses.

ITV Academy Winter Logo Competition

Year 12 Global Academy student, Amy Hands has been named a joint winner in the 2024 nationwide ITV Academy Winter Logo Competition!

ITV Academy challenged students across the country to give their logo a festive makeover, following strict brand guidelines while capturing the magic of the season. Amy’s imaginative and beautifully designed entry stood out among many talented submissions, earning her this prestigious recognition.

Amy’s winning design will feature on ITV Academy’s internal and external communications throughout December, including social media and newsletters, spreading festive cheer to thousands.

BTS at the UCI Track Final

Amazon X Warner Bros Discovery

Global Academy students were invited by Rise Up Academy, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Warner Bros. Discovery Sports to go behind the scenes at the iconic Lee Valley VeloPark during the thrilling Grand Finale of the 2024 UCI Track Champions League. This prestigious event, held across Europe, culminated in two electrifying nights of high-speed racing.

The visit included a guided tour of the velodrome, allowing students to get up close and personal with the modern facilities and the hard work athletes and broadcasters put in. Seeing how broadcasters, engineers, and sports professionals work together provided students with a complete view of the industry.

Year 12 journalism student and aspiring track cyclist Amelia Divino described her experience:

“This afternoon, I got the opportunity to attend behind-the-scenes work experience at WBD Sports Europe’s track cycling event alongside AWS. I loved the tour of the velodrome and learning about the broadcasting and presenting operations, from sport presentation to data integration. Everything I learnt today was even more interesting because I trained in track cycling myself when I was younger.”

- Amelia Divino
