Industry Partners Update - April 2024
Welcome to the latest edition of g:termly!
As we get to the end of the Spring Term - we wanted to share some of the range of exciting things our students have been up too along with our industry partners in the past six weeks.
Launching Our New Digital PathwayAnnouncing our new Digital Development Sixth Form Pathway which starts in September 2024. To kickstart the course - we held a special event at Global HQ. At the event future students met teams from Global Player, Sky, ITV, and took part in digital challenges as well as get a sneak peek of our upcoming course and what’s involved. |
GA in LA and ParisThis half term, Global Academy took students on an unforgettable journey. Year 13 jetted off to Los Angeles, mingling with industry pros and delving into the magic of Hollywood. Meanwhile, Year 11 explored the cultural hub of Disneyland Paris, immersing themselves in its fun and creativity. From behind-the-scenes studio tours to iconic landmarks, both trips offered once-in-a-lifetime experiences. |
Canon Hosts Our First Learning DayYear 13 took part in our first ever Canon Learning Day, participating in creative workshops and engaging talks led by Canon EMEA's marketing and creative services team. Capturing the essence of the day, a compelling short film was crafted within Canon's state-of-the-art photography and video studios. Find out more here. |
Global Apprenticeships Get LaunchedLaunching the Global Aim High Apprenticeship Programme is a highlight of our year! Tailored for our upcoming Year 13 graduates, this exclusive opportunity offers a foot in the door to Europe's largest media and entertainment company. 8 lucky Global Academy students will gain firsthand experience across programming, marketing, digital, creative, and commercial teams over 18 months when they graduate this Summer. |
IMG Studios Opens DoorsFrom classroom to studio lights! Our students had an amazing opportunity to witness the magic of sports TV production at IMG Studios. As well as getting top advice in how to craft the perfect CV and entry-level role application - students got the chance to network with industry pros and witness Michael Owen and Ian Wright in action - making this day truly unforgettable! |
Branded Content Project is a massive successOur Year 12 students had the opportunity to dive into the world of marketing, content creation, and pitching through our recent Branded Content project in partnership with Global. From brands like Pandora, Dr. Martens, and Warner Bros. Studio Tour to KFC, Hasbro, and Nando's—alongside partners at Wavemaker, M Six, Zenith, PHD, Essence Mediacom, and Carat—our students spent three weeks creating, pitching, and designing exciting media campaigns tailored for real brands and briefs. |
Head of TED speaks to Global studentsAt Global Academy, we pride ourselves on providing our students with exceptional opportunities to learn from industry leaders who inspire and motivate with their wisdom and experiences. Chris Anderson, Head of TED, visited Global Academy to share insights from his latest book ‘Infectious Generosity’ with Year 10 and Year 14 students |
How to Break into NewsOur Journalism Pathway students had the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the world of news and current affairs during our inaugural LBC Journalism Day. They spent the day alongside reporters, journalists, editors, and producers from Global's Newsroom and LBC, discovering the essential skills needed for a career in news. Furthermore, Global Academy alumni, now employed at LBC, shared their personal journeys with our students. The day concluded with a keynote Q&A session featuring LBC Presenter James O'Brien. |
