Industry Partners Update - December 2023
Welcome to the latest edition of g:termly!
We’ve had a fantastic half term at Global Academy with lots of exciting projects, industry guests and visits as well as a chance to have a little bit of fun as we headed into the Christmas break.
Take a look below at some of the exciting things we have been up too in the past six weeks and of course, thank you for your ongoing support to kickstart careers in media!
Tech Pathway Students Explore the industryThis half term, our students in the new Technical Media and Broadcast pathway have been on an exciting journey! They've delved into exclusive "Skills Sessions" with leading industry names like CNN, EMG, Sky, Global, Sunset and Vine, Warner Brothers Media, RaceTech and manymore. Witnessing behind the scenes, they're gearing up for an incredible 45-day Summer Term placement. |
Diwali and Hanukkah Celebrations Go Live!Global Academy students sparkled with Diwali and Hanukkah celebrations! Vibrant performances, readings, and music lit up the events. What made it shine brighter? Our talented Year 12 Technical Media and Broadcast students live-streamed the festivities on YouTube, sharing cultural richness with a global audience! |
Year 11 Take Part in Media & Sustainability ProjectGlobal Academy’s Year 11 students join forces with dentsu and Generation C for a groundbreaking initiative that empowered our Year 11 students with expertise in sustainability, climate change, and media skills. Find out more HERE. |
Global Academy Unveils Next-Gen Production SpacesGlobal Academy unveils cutting-edge production spaces this term! Two new visual podcast studios, a live streaming control room with wireless cameras and OBS are set to elevate our production quality. Exciting collaborations with industry partners await to bring these spaces alive! |
Capital FM Alumni Comes Back to Launch Content Production ModuleRenowned sound designer and former student Harry Diffey returned to Global Academy, to speak with Year 12 Content Production students on sound editing. Harry launched the new brief which saw students crafting artist music promos, mimicking Capital FM’s style for scheduling on our very own Youths Choice. Find out more here. |
Business Students Get PitchingThroughout the term, our Business and Enterprise students delved into the art of pitching. Year 12s showcased original business ideas to peers; Year 13s pitched campaign enhancements at Global HQ to the government as part of their “Get the Jump” campaign resulting in a wide range of unique media ideas. Year 14s secured Disruptive Talent funding, turning £50 into nearly £3k profit, with the winning group retaining EVERYONE’S EARNINGS! 💸 |
Year 13 Designers Transform Global's SoundStudents in Year 13 Digital Design reimagined a Global radio station for a brand new audience. Students spent the half term creating innovative advertisements and animations that breathed new life into the brands and then shared their concepts and creatives to the Brand Managers and Marketing Directors at Global to get feedback! |
Key Stage 4 Get Taste of IndustryYear 10 and Year 11 got their fix of industry insights this term, shadowing beloved media employers. A day at Global HQ exposed them to professionals discussing their roles. They also peeked behind the curtains at Sky and Everyman Cinema, embracing the real-world media experience. |

Students learnt a wide range of camera and production techniques in such a short space of team . Huge thanks to Canon's EMEA creative services team for this enriching opportunity! |
All Aboard with unique Design and Marketing TourThe relationship between Global Academy and London Transport Museum (LTM) continues to develop and grow as students from the Media Business and Art & Design got the chance to explore LTM’s new Global sponsored ‘How to Make a Poster’ gallery as a pre-Christmas end of term treat. Our students were guided around the exhibition by Matt Brosnan, Head Curator at LTM, and Sau-Fun Mo, Head of Design & Presentation at LTM, to give further context to support their studies and marketing/branding modules. |

We created 100 ideas in a day with ITVYear 12 business students collaborated with Mediacom and ITV Sales at ITV’s Head Office in White City for a dynamic one-day project. Together, they brainstormed and generated 100 innovative marketing ideas across ITV platforms. The collaboration was an invaluable opportunity for students to experience the industry's real-life workings firsthand in such a fast paced atmosphere! |
We are proud of the achievements and experiences our students have had this half-term.
